I saw the program on it yesterday, and it freaked me out. I think that it said at lease 6 years.

If Yellowstone erupted at its maximum potential I am not sure that there would be much life left across much of the the US, Canada, or Mexico. I believe that there is a possibility that human life as we know it may not exist 5 years after this occurred.
The eruption would last probably more than a year with multiple vents in the region. I believe the sunlight would be cut off to earth with possible reflectivity of 85%-95%. There would be mass starvation because of the number of people the US feeds every year. It is possible that an event of this kind could usher in a new ice age which would also kill many people.
Perhaps this is the event in Revelations which kills a third of the population of the planet. Who knows!!
I believe it would not only be catastrophic to the US but also to the world.

If Yellowstone were to erupt, there would be no sun for at least 5 years, which would mean very cold temperatures and every little air (if any). All air would be replaced with Carbon Monoxide because of the highly combustable gases that have escaped. The smoke/ash would be worse than Mt. Saint Helens, and would drift all the way into central Mexico (I am predicting). Moving overseas would be a good idea, but the smoke/ash would be so heavy that it would be impossible to fly. All this summarized = death.

From what I understand it would be years before there would be enough sunlight for any significant vegetation to grow, assuming any thing would survive long enough to grow.

It might be much worse than "the year with no summer" because of Krakatoa exploding.
