Why do most women pay more attention to their appearance than improving their minds?

Hey now, that's stereo-typing. Not all women do that, some of us don't have to....we are naturally good looking!

Too much emphasis is put on appearance and we are continually judged by our looks. Too many people make fun of how others look and this only makes it worse. Also, being clean and neat is important and not necessarily a vanity.

By the way, how do you know we're not improving our minds? I spend most of my time contemplating my studies but not talking about it, it's often too much to go into for general conversations. Most people seem surprised to hear what I am interested in.. Maybe they think I am not interested in improving my mind when in reality I am more interested in that than anything else. We can never know the secret thoughts of others. I might add, I have read that men think of sex almost three hundred times a day. This is hardly a mental improvement.

Ask a bunch of young girls to name women they admire, and most likely they'll name pop stars, celebrities, actresses, and others known mainly for looks or sexiness. They can easily name 5 beautiful celebs, but ask them to name 5 woman scientists, for example, and they'll draw a blank. It's because women who are notable for other things don't get as much publicity, so they're not at the forefront as role models.

In any case, some women may think they'll get more recognition, fame, admiration, popularity, and acceptance if they look really pretty vs. if they're really smart. Other reasons have been mentioned: that they want to look good for guys, and also because they want to look better than other girls, the way some guys pay lots of attention to muscle size or car model.

I myself (as a girl) value brains over beauty. What I've found to be true is if a girl is smart and confident, she'll have that special sort of radiance that makes her naturally beautiful. And that can never be duplicated with lipstick and curling irons.

Because women are judged more on their looks. No matter how smart a woman is, if she's plain looking, it's hard for her to get anywhere.
Remember high school? Who got the dates? Who was homecoming queen? No matter what her grades, I'll bet she was pretty.
A man could interview for a job wearing a tie that clashed with his suit, and still get the job if his resume' was strong, because men aren't "supposed" to care about such things. If the same resume' was handed in by a woman wearing no makeup, she probably wouldn't get hired because any woman who would "let herself go" like that MUST be the sort to let OTHER things go (like her work) as well.

I don't pay much attention to my appearance - screw the guys that don't like me cause I'm not pretty or thin enough for them: I'd rather a guy be attracted to me for my mind than my body.

Looking hot isn't going to get me any job that I would want and I think a dazzling mind is far more impressive than a dazzling body.

My answer would be (honestly ) that those women that do, must be believing that they can fool the world and themselves by keeping their appearances up, They are taking the easy way out..yes..but for me paying attention to both equally, --it improves all image ..inside and out!

And, sad to say, most men don't pay any attention to that.....

Fashion/Beauty Magazines...they portray a false perception of Beauty and all too many women are obsessed with attaining the impossible.
