You must be 16 to be completely free to work. 14 and 15 year olds can work in very specific situations. See the site below.

All you need to be is 18 years of age to obtain employment in Illinois. Some positions require that you be at least 21 years of age. Other positions are restricting as they are specifically set for the selling of alcohol and other products for those who are 21 plus. If you have no other illegal restrictions, such as a serious problem with the law, then you are capable to obtain employment in Illinois. I think you can work at the age of 16 but you have to have a work permit

well ur supposed to be 16 and over to get a part time job
but u could work as an intern once ur 14-15.
