Did anyone see the news in Britain yesterday? Did you see the interview with J K Rowling and how she is seriously thinking about killing Harry Potter in the final book! I can understand her point that after the books are finished she doesn't want another author to come along and re-write the character but why kill him? Snap his wand, send his broomstick to the cleaners but please spare his life. Discuss

She's trying to wind the fans up and mislead them - she always does that!

Though it might be a double bluff, and actually be true....

As we all should full well know, in the world of fantasy, anything is possible. So, even a dead Harry may return.

Look at what Gandalf's fall in Moria did for LOTR. Great twist, that was.

I want to see Harry grow up and become a full wizard. Poor guy's been suffering delayed puberty long enough.

Anyway, besides resurrection scenarios, there may be additional tales before the death. Even Sherlock Holmes had more adventures after plunging into the falls with Moriarty.

If you're all worried and upset about this, maybe you can try mailing her a copy of Misery.

She would loose a lot of her fan's if she does it. All the people who have read her books & seen the movies would probably be outraged if she kills a character that has become like a superhero to some. If Superman, Batman or Spiderman died in the movies or comic books it would be the same. Did you hear the outrage about the comic book where Spiderman reaveled his identity? Fans were outraged, and he wasn't even killed! I hope for all the fan's sakes' she doesn't. Someone will probably tell similar stories whether or not she kills Harry. So why ruin the ending by killing the hero?

Even if she does that they will find a way to start another series. Go look into http://www.fanfiction.net/ preferably the Harry Potter C2 s. People snap Harry's wand, throw him in Azkaband, exile him, and a bunch of other things. Then they bring him in another chapter or have a sequel to the story they made. If they do kill him off, he stays dead. I like Harry Potter to but to stop someone from rewriting him she'll have to kill him. Even the ones who make their own version keep him dead most of the time.

I would kill her if she killed Harry. Why kill him? Is her prophecy for neither both can live at the same time her way of making it come true? I guess she is going to let Voldemort rule the world. I hope she does not kill Ron or Herminone. She should end the book with one the three friends getting married, but no killing. Her fans will be very upset if she kills off Harry. What is she thinking and please someone tell her to not kill the boy who lived. If he dies, he will no longer be the boy who lived, but the boy who only live 17 years and died at Voldemorts hand! SNAP HIS WAND! ANYTHING TO SAVE THE CHARACTERS EVERYONE LOVES! email me for more discussion.

Bit frightening that you're so attached to a fictional character, but it IS her writing, she can run him through with a million swords for all I care. She would know better how to end the series than anyone else on the blanet.

But it's not like it can't be spun off. There could be yet another book that takes place 10 years later that reveals Harry knocked up Hermione before he died for all we know.

Well another author can't come along and keep writing about Harry as that would be an infringement of copyright. I would hate to think that she would kill him off though as poor hermione will be left alone with Ron. Harry will kill off voldemort, marry Hermione have a few sprogs and send them all to Hogwarts where he and Hermione will be working. Harry as headmaster and Hermione as professor of herbology. And they will all live happily ever after and so will we because we'll know voldemort is dead and posing no threat to Harry any more.

I read an article about how two characters would eventually meet their end in the last book, but the article I read said that she refused to reveal who... as she has with the last couple books.

I know in the article I read, she only mentioned that she understood why some authors kill off their main character, but she didn't say that she was going to do the same with Harry.

I doubt that if she did plan to do so, she would tell us. It'd be a bad marketing move and no one would want to buy the last book. So, unless you heard her actually say that she would, I wouldn't hold my breath just yet

Beats growing old.

Who wants to read Harry Potter and the Usage of the Bed Chamber Pot, or Harry Potter and the Bladder Stone?

If he's killed, he can come back just like he was and never have to grow up. And, we'll never have to learn the secret of Dumbledore's adult diapers...

I think that would be awful. I want to see Harry age, and become a great wizard, a legend like Merlin. I think she could write Harry's story for years to come. I don't think she realizes how large of an adult following Harry has, she could actually write more adult themes if Harry were allowed to grow up.

Chaos brought up a good point about her fans turning on her if she does. An exception might be if he dies while saving another. It would have to be something heroic so she could pass off the books to new readers and give the old readers some consolation in their disappointment.
