...and if so, how?

...periods are not bad, they are only as good or as bad as YOU make them...I am old enough to understand that - I love my period as too do MANY other women. I'm just sad now that I didn't celebrate it like I wanted to, hell it was so long ago i cannot even remember the date!

I did do a small mother ritual by myself I don't have a copy of it anymore but I created sacred space (cleansed and consecrated the area) and used two candles one white and one red to represent the Maiden aspect that I was leaving behind and the mother aspect that I was entering I lit the red from the white then put the white one out. I did some meditating on what I could expect in the new phase of my life then closed the ritual with communion and prayer to the goddess to help me through the change.

:) hope this helped you

I feel a bit alone among everyone else answering here but I think this is a really nice question. I don't have an answer but I'm sorry everyone thinks having a period is such a negative thing. Period pains are bad, sure, but not THAT bad, and how exciting is it to mark the moment that you changed from being a girl into being a women. There's nothing that marks the change from boy to man. Why WOULDN'T a woman celebrate if they didn't hate the fact they were a woman?

Omigod, no. I was SO sad. I didn't tell my mother for 6 months. I prayed so much for it to go away! Once I told my mother though (only because I had to go swimming at school) I accepted it. I just couldn't go through with telling her and I was afraid that we would celebrate it because I didn't want her talking about "You're a woman now" cause I just wanted to be a kid. I don't really think ppl should celebrate it. It probably would have killed me. The whole thought of being a woman. But it shouldn't be a sad thing. It should just be like "hey here's a tampon, here's a pad. You know how this works right? Okay, good. Go deal." That was how my mommy was. Because she knows me.

I think the idea of a young girl celebrating her first cycle is a wonderful thing. There are moon lodges within a hour or so from where I am.. and the girls first cycle is celebrated with a sweat lodge, smudging, gift giving, feasting.. etc.

No, I never had this. Then, it was kept a secret. What an awful way (then) to show how wonderful we, as women, truly are.

I was at my dad's house it was this summer in the middle of the night and, I went to the bathroom during an episode of King of the Hill (the one where Connie got her first period,) freaked out for a second, and started laughing. (Earlier that evening I read Carrie that's what freaked me out) I didn't tell my dad, or mom when I got home but I did have a bit of a celebration. I put on some Vivaldi, meditated, said a few prayers to the "goddess", then ate a whole jar of Natala chocolate spread, it was sort of creepy now that I think of it.

No i did not, i got my first period in school it was horrible. and anyway i think everyone should celebrate their becoming a woman not something big just something between u and the woman who are the closes to u like ur mom, sisters or girl friends. I think the least u could do is be excited. yes later on u might get sick of it but enjoy ur first time. i did not like the timing of my first period but I wish I celebrated it just for fun.

No. And most people don't. Most people are quiet about what really goes on and schools don't teach girls what they really need to know about it. How could you celebrate something thats going to scare someone to death and is starting to happen to girls younger and younger. That's just dumb. The only reason why anyone who posted yes to this is because they are older. You guys have come to learn and deal with this. Don't be dumb. No little girl is going to want to celebrate blood coming out of her vagina. Let's think about this one guys... Honestly guys are disgusted by it.. celebrate it as the women we are? I think we all already know if we are women or not. Maybe it's just me.. I mean really I COULD be wrong.. But notice all the ones posting no to this.. just seem to be a bit younger. Yah.. thank you.....

I didn't celebrate it as such but I was very pleased.
I still enjoy the arrival of each one.

I have had my troubles with my cycle but I do not understand the mentality that sees it as 'a curse'. If you have very painful periods, GO TO THE DOCTOR - there is no reason it should be any more than a day or two's discomfort.

Women, take control of your bodies, and love them and yourselves.

No I didn't celebrate it. That's kinda funny. I guess you could celebrate it for womanhood or something. but I don't get whats the big deal? If your sooo worried about it throw a party now and go wahoooo I"m on my period. Invite all your girl friends and hang out together. Then in the gift bags give them pads and tampons...lol!

yesss celebrate it! being a woman is a beautiful thing, you should celebrate everything about yourself. women should take a hint from that dove beauty campaigne and realize that women come in all shapes, sizes and colors and everyone is beautiful because we are all God's creatures. Having a period is part of the glory of womanhood and it should be celebrated! Yes...it is a pain sometimes to have to worry about having cramps and bloating and tampons, but whatever! it lets us know that we are healthy and everything is in good working order, and reminds us that we possess the ability to bear children which is one of the most amazing things ever!

celebrate your womanhood!!
