Most travel agents will help you with the Visa. The Vietnamese
embassy is in San Francisco. The Visa is usually cost about $30 - $40, that depends who's your travel agent. The Visa is good for 90 days, but that's usually good enough, because you don't really want to stay there that long. If this is your first time to Vietnam, you will get a big cultural shock. The hot humid weather and the crowd just make you want to leave as soon as possible.

if you are in the usa and you are NOTof viet namese decent, its 30 days but can be extended in viet nam very easily [ most hotel desk clerks can help you with this [ about $25 for a month extention].. to get your visa here in the usa get an application from the vietnamese consolate in washington dc[ contact them by phone or "on line"] fill out and return application ... the whole process takes 2- 6 weeks the visa is attached to your pass port ... so obviouly you first must have a pasport [ get one at the main branch of your local post office.] if you plan on staying say 60 days buy your round trip plane ticket accordingly... you WILL be able to extend in viet nam unless YOU are a problem there. if you must its also easy to change departure dates in viet nam. everone in viet nam is very helpfull. if you are polite with them.
