identical twins do not run in families. In identical twins, the fertilized egg splits in half, a complete fluke. Fraternal twins actually run in families because this requires the mothers falopian tubes to have produced two eggs both of which then get fertilized. If there are any fraternal twins in your family (yours, not your husbands, it has nothing to do with his history as twins are totally dependent on the mother and not at all on the father) then you need to worry, otherwise no need to worry. most likely you were either underweight before getting pregnant and your body is making up for it for the babys sake or you may be going the way of many pregnant woman and actually eating for two.

I read the identical twins are not linked to genetics. Fraternal twins are though on the mother's side. It has to do with how many eggs the women produces. Identical twins are just by chance and there has been no evidence to support that they are geneticly linked from generation to generation. So no there isn't a huge change just because your mother and father are both identical twin....if your mother was a fraternal twins your chance would be greater. If you happened to have identical twins it would be a great coincidence..if youre hoping for twins best of luck to ya! You never know!

About 1 in 26 births are twins so unless you have undergone fertility treatments, which do increase those odds, it is still a long shot that you will have twins. Of the twins born in this country, 75% are fraternal and 25% are identical. Fraternal twins tend to run in families and various fertility drugs also increase your chances of having them. Fraternal twins may or may not be of the same sex.

There is a good chance you are. I have an aunt that had twins and it has always been said that it skips a generation. It doesn't. I have two cousins that have both had twins so it's quite possible you are. I would say get an ultrasound done as soon as you can find out. GOOD LUCK!

Your chances are actually no greater than any woman's chances are for having twins. Identical twins do not run in families - it's a random event. Fraternal twins are caused by a woman's inherited (genetic) disposition for ovulating more than once per menstrual cycle. The only people more likely to have twins are women who either have fraternal twins in their family, or who are fraternal twins themselves. It's a neat coincidence that both your parents have identical twins in their family, but that doesn't change the fact that identical twinning is not passed down through families - only fraternal twinning is.
The chances for you to be carrying fraternal twins (assuming that you are not a fraternal twin and you/hour husband do not have fraternal twins in your families):
1 in 88+ (.12% chance)
The chances for you to be carrying identical twins (since identical twins do not run in families and are random):
4 in 1,000 (.04% chance)
You could still be carrying twins - it's certainly not impossible, but it's not any more likely than any other woman to be carrying twins. If you do have twins in this pregnancy, though, you are five times more likely to have twins again in later pregancies.

I have twin sisters. Both my parents went back 10 generations and neither of them have twins in the family. Is that wierd or what??? Anyways, I've heard that it skips a generation, so your children will have a greater chance of having twins.

I believe its actually a genetic trait from the father's side. It helps if your family has had twins too, but look at the fathers family history. If there are a lot of twins, then yes there's a good chance. And in my Aunt's case, she didnt know until she went into labor!!!!

It is really likely. In my family my sister of I will be the one to have twins or both of us. On my mothers side there is a set or two in every other generation and on my father side every three generations and it just happens that it falls on my generation for both sides. Maybe yours and mine can play together some time. HA HA

I read that it doesn't matter whether twins run on the father's side. But, since your mother is an identical twin, your likelihood of twins is definitely increased.
