Some of the plants I have had success with in attracting hummingbirds are the following, and most don't need a lot of water.
Trumpet vine, honeysuckle vine [ I have found hummingbird nests in the honeysuckle vine], bee balm,[ love the lemon mint scent of bee balm], larkspurs, the red flowers of canna plants, and zinnias. Phlox, columbine, petunia,
Most of these plants can take a dry sunny place with little water.

Hummingbirds love snowball bushes, lilac bushes, hibiscus, trumpet flower, fuschia. All but the fuschia love lots of sun.

hummingbirds are attracted to many flowering shrubs and perennials, but particularily to plants with tubular shaped flowers and shades of red.

I have a hanging Petunia and notice every evening hummingbirds come around it.

i don't know the Latin name but they like whats commonly called the trumpet flower, ask at a good plant nursery

Honeysuckle. Any kind of funnel shaped flower.

Here is what I have that the humming birds visit daily:
red salvia, purple phlox, impatiens, trumpet vine (orange).

add mexican sage to the previous answers for an easy maintenence, full sun, drought tollerant landscape.
