Some people feel to intimidated to confront you in person. They feel if they do it in front of others you will be more composed with your answer or explanation.

Ahhhh that would be the old Green Monster Called Jealousy. For some reason she is intimated by you and to call you down in front of others makes her feel superior. It is how you handle yourself at the moment that matters. Do not be defensive but offensive so to speak. Put her on the spot. Since you did not give an example here to put in active terms. But I'm sure you get the point. Play offense ball not defense ball. And the ball is in her court and see how she handles being put on the spot in from of the co-workers. But becoming friends and working together is always better for all concerned. Hope all works out for you.

Soft_beth is right. It is a power play by a catty b*tch co-worker. I use that term for both a man or woman, as the case may be.

Ignore the button he/she is trying to push on you and just move forward as Soft_beth has sugggested.

It is a power trip for them to put you on the spot in front of co-workers.

Because your co-worker is passive aggressive which makes them fear you in a way, with the support of the other people involved in the meeting it makes them feel as if they are safe from harm.

It's a power play hon.

Just answer with "perhaps we can meet to discuss this later, rather than take up everyone's valuable time"

Perhaps the reason is similar to the reason why YOU took time to come and ask this question to a group of strangers instead of going to HER and asking her.

Some people fear confrontation.

Sometimes it is easier to confront people if she feels that she needs support from other co-workers. This has happened to me too and it is very embarassing and frustrating. However, not all of us can confront people appropriately.
