I've been experimenting with those, and there are two ways: hot or cold set. Either way, if you're printing out an image onto the transfer paper, make sure to print in Mirror Image (reversed) so it comes out the right way. Cut out the image so there isn't extra glue on the shirt. For hot set, you pull the paper off while it's still hot. This way the image is only ink on the shirt and not shiny. My experience is that this works best because if you pull the paper off after it cools, you get that shiny, gluey image that cracks and won't stay when it's washed. Be sure to buy the paper for "dark colors" unless your shirt is white or very light colored.

Yeah, and like the second answer says, turn the shirt inside out. That way no one will ever see the image since it'll be on the inside.
