I think that's an amazing gesture...more people should give to charities that really need it. Especially people that have more money than they can count. I mean helping people is one of the greatest things a person can do in their life, plus it just makes you feel good. So why can't rich people give a little instead of take. I think this guy is making a great example for other people to follow.

Never heard of this in the news. Which charities? With all that money being given, why are some organizations still asking for help? Are they greedy or they deceiving the public. If that guy gave $44 Billion to just one charity, then he's a fool!

It was one of the greatest things I have witnessed. If we all gave just a little, the world would be a better place.

Unlike a earlier poster, The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation is a wonderful charity. They are not only helping the poorest countries in the world, but also fund many educational grants, and computers for schools who can not afford them in the United States.

Have a nice Day

It's unfortunate that there is no charity available for the money to be donated to that doesn't have the bureaucratic structure and money-wasting red-tape that organizations like The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (Buffett's charity of choice), the ICRC, War Child, etc. It's a shame to know that so much of the money being donated will never actually reach the people who are the target of the aims of the charity.

What people don't realize about charities is. Those organizations aren't required to spend the money they receive for in donations on the cause that peopel donate for. By law charities are only requires to use I think like 15-18% of the donations on the actual cause. The remainder they can do as they please with it. Charities are nothing but a big joke anyway. Created for tax purphoses for the rich.

I really think that the person that gave 44 billion dollars to charity did a great thing and that more people that can should give to charity. This is our country and that we should help those who are in need.

I take my hat off for those who help those who cant help themselves.

Whoa that's a lot of money. I wish I was a charity case. But that is great.......it is my understanding that Bill Gates/Wife plan on during the same thing upon their deaths. So there are a lot of rich people that give away a lot of money. I just hope that the charities use the money wisely.

He freaking rocks...in an interview he said his wife had died 2 years ago and it caused him to have a crisis of conscious. He came to know that all the money in the world can't save you if you are dying so it became a mission for him to help keep others from dying in his own way. I think that's remarkable...you know that anyone who has acquired that much money has probably stepped on many toes to get it, so this is a quite generous and unexpected act from someone you wouldn't expect it from. Very well done, Mr. Buffet. Thank you.

I think that it's very generous of him, despite the fact that he will get somewhat of a tax deduction for it. If more rich people donated to charity, I'd feel a lot better about living in an oligarchy instead of what is supposedly a democracy.
