Make a list of pros and cons for owning a cell phone. And in an eloquent letter, using proper english, explain to them how the ownership of a cell phone would outweigh the costs and any other cons you figure.

Okay. One, calm down on the !'s. Two, your going into middle school. Who do you need to call other then some of your little buddies? And three, saying something is "gay" is a useless thing. It has nothing to do with what your talking about.
You don't need a cell phone. Most likely the only reason you want one is so you can show up on the 1st day of school and say "yeah, I got a cellphone" which I'm sorry, cellphones are not impressive. Your parents are right not to give you one.

You are too young for a cell phone. Honestly, in my opinion if you are not old enough to drive it is pointless having a cell phone because without a car you're at home all the time anyway so there's a thing called using the home phone.

Show them by getting a summer job and tell them that you will earn it if they just give you an advancement as soon as you start the job. If you are old enough to work. If not tell them to get you a work permit so you can work. When and if they give you an advancement, get the phone and start to repay them the advancement and continue to pay the bill. If you get a Cricket phone, then you won't have to sign a contract and if you lose your job or if the phone gets cut off, then your parents won't be responsible for the balance of the contract.

This is what I said and it worked. By the way, I'm entering middle school so I'm about your age. Tell them: "If I go to a friends house, what happens if the parents don't have a cell phone and there's an emergency?"

Jack:
Are you absolutely certain that you want to be on a leash like that? That thing rings and everyone, even if you are hiding from them, can find you. Your folks can check up on you anytime of the day or night. And if you are any sort of a gentleman you will not turn it on during class.
Honestly, I am 58 years old and have NEVER even talked on a cell phone, let alone carried one around with me. I have had several jobs requiring me to carry a beeper, and two that required me to carry a two-way radio. I hated every second of it. I am not important enough to have to be in contact with someone 24/7. And, I doubt seriously that you are.

Your parents are right. You don't NEED a cell phone, you just want one so you can txt with your friends. In reality, your school probably won't allow them, so there is little point in having one. As far as you paying for it---you do realize that texting costs money and is subject to minutes charges, right? It can get very expensive. You are only in middle school--you will have to listen to your parents for another 6 years or so. Get used to it!

I wanted a cell phone, and my argument was that i am getting older, and will be going places, where you can't watch me all the time, and you may need to get a hold of me, or, i would need you, and might be broke. you never know. plus, you could show them responsibility, by telling them that if you can't pay for it, you will work it off, you won't miss a payment, and the first time you mess it up, they take the phone for X amount of time. it took me forever to convince them, but i did it, and have my phone. now they find it easier on them to let me go places and to let me have more freedom. they can't watch you forever.

Give them some examples of when you would have needed one. Do all your chores on time or before that. If you have a sibling treat them better. Try that for atleast 2 months. It should work.
