It's not a glorified scam, and the only way that you end up with a bunch of leftover products is if you order inventory that you don't need. This can be a wonderful opportunity for your spouse. The main thing is to try to stay focused and don't overstock your inventory. Order the things your customers want, not what directors tell you to get. Don't place larger wholesale orders just to get special recognition, or because your director tells you it's a good idea. I've heard a lot of people that are bitter towards the company because they weren't successful and ended up losing a lot of money. Work smart, not hard, and make your investment work for you, not against you. If your spouse is seriously considering starting a business with Mary Kay, you can contact me directly and I will answer any questions that the two of you may have openly and honestly. I won't sugar coat anything just to make it sound really good, and I'll tell you about the positive and negative aspects of the business. My email is anderson_daryn@yahoo.com

it is not a scam but it is hard work that is no lie just straight up an honest it is like nay other job or business! You have to work it to run it and keep shop open! Mk has been the #1 skin care for years now and it is a great product it does sale it-self! The only different between Mk product and any one else is the over head and the "lack of a personal experience" and Mk has a $ back guarantee. If it was a glorified scam they would not have this offer still to many people including the company would be broke by now!!!

Mary Kay is like anything else... you get into it what you put out! As a non active sales person I can tell you that there are so many opportunites for growth including a free car with a lot of benefits and discounts on stuff like Dell computers etc. I suggest your wife does some research talk to sales consultants and get tips. Overall, Mary Kay has been around for like forever and the founder believed in solid ethical business practices, so Its not a scam.

I have sold Mary Kay for a little over a year now. It is a good company but it takes a lot of time & effort to make any $ at it. I started out with small inventory and added to it as I sold product. I have a full time job & really do not have the time to do the parties that it takes to make the big $ and to build a team under me. Now I just sell product to my current customers & make enough to keep my daughter & I in makeup.

I used to sell mary kay about 12 yrs ago... it doesn't really sell itself like avon or tupperware. With mary kay you have to get out and do parties and there is a lot of investing. I know you have to pay quite a bit to get your starter kit for mary kay... with avon I believe you only have to pay like $10 to get started.... some leaders will cut you a break and give you your starter kit for free.... all you have to do is hand out brochures, collect orders, deliver the order and collect the money at that time.... buy samples if you want ... which are cheap..... and that's all there is for avon.
