Absolutely loved the film. Only Munich BARELY edged it out for bets film of last year (but only barely). It's one of the few open and honest films about the subject of oil and the Middle East. I was also stunned at the storyline involving the recruitment of the young terrorist.
Amazing stuff.

I certainly wouldn't put it past the US government to pull some of that. In 1996, America and Pakistan were the only two supporters of the Taliban. America supported them because Unical wanted to build a pipelaine across southern Afghanistan to India, and Taliban promised security. In 1998, the oil rights were re-neogtiated because an Argentinian oil company (Bridas) offered more money. Thats the FIRST time the American government ever had anything negative to say about the Taliban.
The movie is fiction, but I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happenened.

I think it is way too complicated for most people to truly understand. That will keep it from being "a movie to change the way Americans think." I think people are trying so hard to understand this movie that they are forgetting that it isn't necessarily based on facts...and even if it were to be, it is still going to have the policitical slant of the maker's of the film...and Hollywood in general.
I went into watching this movie with the mindset that it would not sway my own views on anything, because if it did, it would be doing so unfairly. Therefore, the only thing I have taken away from this movie is that the U.S. needs to develop another fuel source. Plain and simple.

It showed an interesting perspective on both sides. My only thing is I am astounded that these Terrorist lack not one iota of intellect to question those above them to any degree. Even in the movie when the one guy questioned his mission, he was told that doubt meant you believed and that was just good enough for him.
It was definitely worth seeing. Clooney shined. Matt Damon played his usual one dimensional character.

it would have been a good story if that had pieced it together better. I don't like the 4 stories going on at once. It's like trying to watch a bad Spanish soap opera. But now remember , that's just my opinion on the style of movie, and we all know what that is worth.

Very complicated, but interesting to watch, with most usual misconception about Arab world, being rude, senseless, mean, etc...
Royalties in the gulf countries don't have such confusion while dealing with successor.
And I didn't get the role of Mat daemon, is he a heaven-sent to the poor Arab prince or what?
such a movie would have been fantastic if the main characters were exposed more.
And yes all of it is true regarding the greed/corruption.

I thought it was interesting... it showed some different angles of things...
I don't know how "true" it was (it was clearly fiction, but I'm saying the issues surrounding the move)... but it's probably much more real than the "conservative" view of the middle east and middle eastern affairs... talk about delusional...

As a piece of fiction, it was entertaining.
But it was quite a stretch of the imagination to buy into the concept that the US military and intelligence were used to support an oil company's venture. I nearly laughed out loud at that absurdity.
It's amazing what writers come up with when they are out of touch with reality, and trying to score political points.
