Yes, you can. You can have a genetic workup of the baby before she/he is born. However, the question is whether it is worth the risk of miscarriage or early labor to do so when it can be done *safely* after the birth.

Actually, it IS possible. Using DNA found in the amniotic fluid, an amniocentisis can be used to perform a DNA test. An amniocentisis, however, can be potentially harmful to the fetus and can result in a miscarriage or preterm birth. The question must be posed as to wether it is more important to know the DNA results before the baby is born than it is to ensure a healthy baby...Under some circumstances the doctor will highly recommend an amnio anyway to test for birth defects, in this case, you might as well go ahead and get that DNA. Also, most DRs. will give the OPTION to every pregnant woman just so they can be sure there are no defects, but why risk giving an otherwise healthy baby problems just to check for problems?

As hard as it must be for you right now, you need to wait and do a DNA test after the birth. You can have a paternity test now, but its very risky and could result in a miscarriage. You cannot get child support until the birth anyways, so just wait until the birth, then go from there. If you know the guy's blood types, that might help you know at birth, though not necessarily.

Yes, but it requires amnio. The risks of the procedure are not really worth it. And you do have to have a blood sample from the father as well. If you do, however, need to have an amnio done for another reason, then you can ask them to do the paternity test at the same time.

Yes, BUT it might possibly kill the baby. It is 100% safe to have the DNA test done after the baby is born. All they do is take a cotton swab to the inside of the baby's and the possible father's mouth and compare the results.

I don't think so. Because a paternity test requires both blood from the baby and from the "so called father"

Yes through an amnio If I'm not mistaken. Though with that comes a risk of miscarriage.
