You didn't specify what they called your Pap test. It might help to understand the terminology used by the cytotechnologist or pathologist to describe you Pap test. ASCUS means "atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance", and just means that we saw something, but cant tell what it is. It could be an infection or more serious pre-cancerous cells. LSIL means "low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion" and that means we saw signs of HPV infection (the virus that causes cervical cancer). Some LSIL's go away on their own, others progress to HSIL "high-grade intraepithelial lesion" which is pre-cancerous. Our last category is Squamous Cell Cancer. You would know if we called it that. But not to worry, cervical cancer usually grows slowly, and it sounds more like an ASCUS Pap. Your gynecologist can do a painless procedure to look at your cervix with a camera called a colposcopy. If he sees cells that look suspicious, he can remove them using a small instrument. Bottom line is this: precancerous lesions can be treated, and you can still have children. If you let it go, and it becomes cervical cancer, then you risk losing your uterus or your life. Talk to your doctor about your options and your Pap test results.

You can have an abnormal PAP, be retested in 6 months or sooner, depending on your GYN. There are several things that can make a PAP come back negative, in cluding having sex within 24 hours of your PAP. Talk to your GYN!!!!! If anything they can do a colposcopy in the office, and take biopsies from certain areas that turm w/ vinegar, or have a LEEP cone procedure where they take a circimferential area of the cervix to biopsy(test). Some times a PAP will come back positive sue to other sexual ralted diseases! Have another PAP done,. and relax. Just make sure you do not have sex with in 24-48 hours of the next one!

An irregular P.A.P. does not always mean cancer, but if it does, there are a number of procedures that can be done to remove any irregular cells. One is called a L.E.A.P., and it will not effect your ability to have children. Don't panic, and listen to your Dr. and your heart before making any medical decisions.

This sounds like cervical dysplasia....yes you can have kids. It's a disease that you have to watch and go to the gyno regularly to make sure it's in check to make sure it doesn't turn into cancer. Unless your gyno starts doing biopsies, then you should be good.
