It is an alternate reality. Of course what you are seeing is real but it's when looking on the inside you will then see a person's true reflection. The image one sees when looking in a mirror is doesn't say who a person is.

Hey, you know, me and a friend were contemplating the meaning of string and some how ended up wondering the same thing. We even got as detailed as "When we go to sleep the reflection in the mirror wakes up and takes over in their universe." Pretty weird stuff, but fun to talk about and explore the ideas of. Plus, if that doesn't satisfy you, I remember seeing this movie when I was very small and it started by a girl traveling through a mirror to an alternate reality with her doll or stuffed animal or something to find the fountain of youth for her grandmother.

Ahh....This Question was ask at school for my 10 year old son.
The answer is, it depends on the way you look in the mirror, the position your standing or moving. That was my answer to my son when he asked me that Question.
He differs, he states it's not a true reflection of oneself looking in the mirror, I guess it would then be self perception of what one really thinks they look like looking in a mirror?

If a mirror were to break would that mean you have just created several hundred alternate realities?

As any good shrink worth his/her salt would say: "which one do you think it is? Which one would you like it to be?"
