i agree on the common courtesy bit. but, considering the number of poor spellers on answers, they have bigger concerns in school i'm sure. now, as far as ethics, i think they try (like no cheating), but so many people have a different opinion on 'ethics', that a public school simply doesn't have time/teachers for it. If you want ethics classes, you go to college.

and in response to more than a hat rack, I respect your opinion, but no, God is not needed for ethics. Your God tells you the ethics to follow, my God gave me free will to choose.

Because ethics and common courtesy were disapproved by the MTV "I wanna be famous" era and considered old fashioned. Now you have to learn these subjects after graduation because you cannot get anywhere real without them.

Probably because, There are way too many god dam people on our planet. So, putting forth the effort to actually teach, and show children respect is too much for teachers and parents. Many parents, teachers are selfish, irresponsable, greedy, and ignorant. Guess what... if people would actually pay attention and begin to care about students and kids, then they could teach them.

Why should schools have to teach that? My school didn't, and I consider it the parents job to raise children with ethics and manners. Schools prep us for work, families prep us for interactions with people.

I'd LOVE to know the answer to that one. "Ethics" is probably considered too close to religion, and courtesy is a dead letter.

schools cannot teach ethics because they have no foundation of ethics (God). If we are here by chance and collisions of random particles, where the heck can you find a good or evil? when god dies, so does ethics. relativism rules.

Not "Politically correct" maybe. Besides, aren't the Parents supposed to be teaching that? Kids learn by example not words.
