i dont know if this is the case for newer homes, but i have seen it in older ones.

Silver toned hardware matches the plumbing fixtures (usually coated nickel or stainless steel) in bathrooms better.

in older homes, gold was considered to be the "in" thing to decorate your home with. Therefore, many doorknobs would be plated in gold (on the outside) for decoration. But on the inside of the bathroom they would have silver doorknobs for a different reason. Practicality. Gold plated knobs would wear down and have to be replacedfrequentely. Silver knobs on the other hand would not wear down as fast, therefore increasing knob "life" and reducing the number of timesyou would have to replace them.

Can be from locks/door knobs being replaced over time.
Can be from when people use to decorate each room independantly. Match the rooms look.
Can be from the silver varnish wearing off a cheap knob and showing the brass underneath.
Can be from years of wet hands on only one side of the handle.

In older homes, what looks like silver is actually nickel plating on the inside and brass on the outside. This is so the brass wouldn't tarnish from the moisture from the bath.
In newer homes the silver is stainless steel.

There's no reason for that, just the previous owners taste. They make knobs in all shapes and colors, so you can use what you want. Maybe to match the chrome taps and fixtures inside the bathroom. Other than that, no real reason for the silver.

No, there is not any longer something you may want to do yet replace them with a diverse lock or knob. once you've lifeless bolts locks to look after the homestead, i'd advise replacing the lock knobs with passage knobs. That way it really is trouble-free to look after the homestead yet can not by twist of destiny lock the door in the back of you. I had your project and followed my own suggestion.
