You might enjoy this method, actually. Throw everything on your desk on the floor, including messes elsewhere in the room. Then go through all of it, deciding what to keep and what to remove. If you don't NEED it, toss it. it's okay to keep some memories, but dont' get overly attatched to stuff. Then, find a place for the stuff you need, keeping the most important stuff close to your desk, ank keeping the other stuff organized and in an easily reachable place. And don't let your desk get too messy afterward.

Are you up to following the basic rules of three? Pick a day to spend sorting things out in your room. Everything goes into one of three piles - keep, toss, give or sell. I know that is is difficult to throw away and give away things, but let's take a serious look at things. Do you need it? When was the last time you used it? Would it make someone else happy? Don't keep clothes that you think you might fit into at a later date. Don't keep every scrap of paper you ever got. Once you have determined what you absolutely can't live without figure out the best way to display or store them. When my kids were little the local ice cream store let me take the empty round containers that the ice cream came in. I covered them with colorful contact paper paper and in went blocks in one, cars in another, and so forth. Use the same idea for your more grown-up items. What kind of inexpensive containers can you dress up and use to create a cool storage system. Organize your closet and clothes by color and type of clothes. Remember - less is better. Check out the shows on TV which give decorating ideas and de-clutter ideas. Also, check on line for cute ideas at DIY.com

I am a freak about organization. I first sort everything into basically three groups. Stuff I really need, stuff I need, and stuff I don't need. I first get rid of the things I don't need. Then put like things together and put then into marked containers or labeled files. Then stay on top if it every week.
Studying is important. Do it somewhere where distractions are at a minimum, like a library. There are no less than 78 things to distract me at home. Make notes for yourself and use a planner.

Get rid of everything that is cluttering your room and thereby your life. Clothes, donate or throw out what you can't wear or never wear. Don't lay things on the floor or scattered on a bookshelf or table. Put in baskets or small, inexpensive drawers in your closet. Then don't overbuy stuff that will start you on that cycle again. Sometimes the more you have, the more it begins to own you.
Clean out your old school books and papers. If you are keeping your books, find a place to put them. Sell or donate books you don't want. Throw out all old papers unless you can use them for reference or because you want to keep them. Keep those filled with labels. Buy a large box of files, cheaper that way, and make tabs to file stuff you know you want to refer to.
Then keep at it with all the new stuff coming in. Things will get in a mess at times, don't wait too long to get it in control.
