I haven't seen Sofia, but I cannot forget Prague... Romantic, historical, all touristic sites in the old city are available on foot. And just to see every castle,museum,etc in that area alone will take at least two days. Night life is fine with contemporary Jazz clubs, theaters, night clubs and such.
Hell it is the only capital in Europe that was not bombed to ground during the second world war! Evrywhere you look there is a church or some other religious or historical building.
Can be cold in winter...

Prague is one of many towns worth-visit and to do that you can start planning your holiday with hotelbye . If you will go during the spring you may find the spring woods in flower; in the summertime you will dsicover extended dusks; fall will give you colorful leaves and specific light and in the winter you will relish the whole town protected with simple bright snow.

I've been to both Prague and Sofia. Both are nice. I think it depends on what you're interested in which place you should go.
I think you'd have much more to do in Prague. There's lots of stuff to do there and a lot of interesting things to see. If you're interested in history you'll have plenty of interesting places to see in Prague. If you're into nightlife and clubbing, Prague is a great place for that too. There's a lot of other activities you can do there too and it's a beautiful city, so I'm sure you'd like it there.
Sofia is very nice too, but there's not really that much to see or do there compared to Prague. You'll see the whole city in one day. Sofia is nicely quiet though, very cheap, and if you like nature there is a nice mountain right next to the city and you can get on top of it by cable railway or by walk.
I'd recommend Prague unless you're looking for a quiet place to relax.

Prague
Prague is a beautfiul city. The charm of this city lies in its many alleys of merchants, restaurants, and artisans, especially around Old Town Square. Like many cities, Prague has some areas that have become a bit too touristy, but it is still a wonderful destination.
In addition to all of the historic and cultural sites in Prague, the famous spa towns, such as Karlovy Vary, are only a short drive away.

Well, both are nice places to go on holiday. But my choice would be Sofia.
I can't agree that Sofia is a quiet city. The night life there is wonderful. There are many clubs and discos.
Another thing you can consider is that Bulgaria kitchen is just so yammy and in Sofia there are many places where you can try traditional meals.
There is also a gorgeous mountain next to the city. There are some very well-equiped ski slopes there/
I'd definitely go to Sofia...it's developing, it's modern and it's defferent.
