Only re-posting this b/c it worked for me... frankifrankifranki answered my question...a link to her profile http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile;_ylt=At_uXRhG5v99HK.xhr8TqmsezKIX?show=c371f6e8a295390f9c32ba2daa14a5dfaa
here's how:
step 1.
go to this web address (do not include the spaces):
www .xilisoft. com /downloads /x-dvd-to-ipod-converter .exe
and download the xilisoft software.
step 2.
install it on your computer.
step 3.
unlock the program by opening it, going to the help tab and entering the following registration code (do not include the spaces):
F71DC344F73424E44D8538B9- 56E7 -92E2- 5D6D
(I have to put spaces in the links and registration code because yahoo will block this type of info otherwise)
step 4.
insert the dvd into your computer (you must have a dvd-rom drive on your computer to put it dvds on your ipod)
step5.
on the xilisoft application, select profile and select the appropriate ipod.
step 6.
click on the dvd button on the xilisoft screen and select your dvd drive as the source.
step 7.
select the destination by picking which folder you would like to save the video to.
step 8.
once all the information has been gathered from your dvd, click the red record button to start ripping the dvd. this will take several hours because it must also convert the files to mpeg4 format.
step 9.
once the dvd has been ripped, open the folder you set as the destination and select the files you wish to put onto your ipod, you may want to preview these files first by playing them with quicktime.
step 10.
drag and drop the selected video files into your itunes library or use itunes to add the files to your library.
step 11.
plug your ipod into your computer and put the videos onto your ipod!
good luck!

You will simply have to download a file converter. I went to www.download.com and they let you try out different programs for free. Type in the search box file converter and they will show u a lot of different file converters you can try out. I also went to www.m2convert.com and downloaded their free trial. It lasts for 15 days, but u can renew it i think twice. That program can also convert dvds so u can put your dvds on your ipod. Or you can go www.afterdawn.com and type in file converter in the search box. They have some free software on there that u can convert video files (not dvds) so that it is compatible with the video ipod. After u use the file converter, open the file in itunes, and use the itunes converter. Sometimes it will say that it is converted to the right format and sometimes it will re-convert the file so that it will be compatible with it. Make sure u use a file converter first then convert it in itunes. There is a free program called DVD Shrink you can download from www.afterdawn.com just type in DVD Shrink in the search box. It rips the movie off the dvd. After you use that program to do that, you will have to download another free program called Videora. Open up the rip dvd file in Videora and it will convert it mp4 format, which is the right video format for the video ipod. Go to itunes go to open, then click on My Computer then Program Files then VideoraIpodConverter, then Videos, and then click on the movie you converted. After it is added to your library, just update your ipod. If you have any more questions just email at tooraw88@yahoo.com or you can im me i'm tooraw88. Good Luck!!

you really can't. You'd have to get a prgram that would first burn your dvds to your comp, then either quicktime Pro (which costs $$) or some other coding program to format the movie in itune format.
I have a video ipod, and i've only been able to use videos ive downloaded that weree specifically for video ipod. (itunes, google videos)

you won't be able to. and do not attempt to liberate the DVDs so that you'll replace the format to play on the iPod. in case you liberate them you will get fined $250,000 for breaking the DVDs copyright. So until eventually you want to could dish out 1 / 4 of one million money merely watch the DVDs on a DVD participant.
