Have you considered using cardboard boxes? They're easily gotten at your local supermarkets or Dollar General stores. They are easy to decorate, cut and staple or tape together. To maintain a longer life, the finished fort can be covered with a tarp or clear plastic. Make sure to make the flooring waterproof by laying a tarp or piece of plastic on the ground underneath.

For a sturdier fort, use 2x4's to build a square frame and cover with old paneling sheeets, pieces of metal sheeting or anything that is easily nailed to a 2x4. It could also be finished with thick plastic.

Good luck!!!

how about the a picnic table draped with a tarp folding table works too.... we had extra fencing the was also used. you gotta have cover wagons take your wagon and a empty clean garbage can and cover with a sheet.. and the cushions from porch furniture make a soft base for your fort. if you have a few small plastic waste baskets these can be your look out point on the top
I've got an old ice fishing shanty that's used for a tent also. did this under fort on site
