Let's See Julia:
Gays can't have a civil marriage that is recognized by the Federal or state (except Mass) gov't. This discrimination brings with it over 1,000 benefits that gays aren't allowed.
Gays can be fired from jobs and denied housing in many states.
Gays are regulary the victims of hate crimes perpetuated against them simply because of their sexual orientation.
Gosh Julia, as an African-American woman, I would think that you would know about discrimination. It's not about money, it's about being able to live your life without fear. And yes, the gay rights movement is a Civil Rights Movement!!!

Unfortuneatly yes there is a lot of discrimination against the gay community as a whole. Closed-minded individuals/racist individuals single out many communities and races and discriminate against them in the same way, but gay people get alot of uncalled for abuse and discrimination in general. We get blamed for the wide spread out break of aids, that we are corrupting todays youth, that we are immoral, that we are pedophiles, rapests, or just the fact that we are gay and like the same sex is reason enough. We get beat up and abused, sometimes killed for what we believe in, and what we practice like we are aliens on this planet and anyone who is not part of the hetrozexual lifestyle doesn't belong. so yes there is alot.

varies between ages and social climates. Usually the larger the city the more tolerant. ie..and top 10 city is going to be ideal for a person wanting to explore an open life as a homosexual free of most discrimination in certain gay friendly neighborhoods. San Diego has an awesome community, LA, SF, NY, ect

I have no idea how much discrimination there is against gays. Probably the same as there is against blacks, or jews, or....
And gay people discriminate against straight people too.
Last summer I met this lady. I knew she was single but that's all I knew aobut her.
Well anyway, a vote came up in my state. It was question 1 on wheter or not we should add 'sexual orientation' to the constituion as far as the 'you aren't allowed to dicriminate based on race, creed, religion ect.
Many poeple in this area thought gays were trying for 'special rights' (me included) and that it would eventulally lead to gay marriage.
She e-mailed me and said she was uspet that people in her own neighborhood, had "No on #1" sings posted on their lawns.
We e-mailed back and forth and I mentioned that many people feel that being gay is wrong and that there are many places in the Bible that say so. (She had previously told me she was Bhuddist but she also belived the words and teachings of Jesus) I offerred to show her where the Bible states that it is wrong.
She NEVER spoke to me again.
I have seen her one time since then, and she still didn't speak!
So it works both ways.

surprisingly a lot. i had one job interview where the interviewer told me, candidly, that he suspects approx. 75% of people throw my resume out on principle (it is clear from my resume that I am gay). I took out the "gay" material on the resume, and since I don't look gay, I got a couple jobs. I was fired within 2 weeks of coming out at both jobs. If you think i'm talking about entry level positions or small towns, you'd be wrong; i live in a large city and have a law degree and master's degree.
I've personally been physically assaulted once, verbally attacked several times, and sexually harrassed more times than I can count. My partner and I had neighbors once that would throw garbage into our yard regularly and call the landlord and tell him lies about our upkeep (luckily he wasn't prejudiced, but it still freaked us out).
i also have to deal with my family's own prejudices, which after 10 years have mellowed but still occassionally pop up.

I don't think any. Many people in hollywood, our government, and our professinal sports are gay. Gay is becoming a very popular trend. America is breaking away from its christian roots and becoming a more mainstream nation every day. Gay is no longer taboo. I don't agree personally with homosexual behavior but I cannot fathom it being restrained the way people exagerate it to be. Look how powerful the gay community is in electing our world leaders Need I say more?

I think people are getting more and more use to gays, especially if they act normal , IMO flamers give gay people a bad name .
If a heterosexual hates gay males he is a fool... A single gay male, will need at least one other gay male to be gay with. What does that mean you ask . It means if two males go gay, then that will mean they are out of the stright dating pool , which in turn means there are two avalibe females for a straight male to chose from .... now take that times 10,0000..... OH YEAH ....
So you see there is no reason for us straight males to hate, to hate homosexual males, in fact me being straight male likes the idea of all the shift in balance of the dating pool.
If you mention any thing about lesbians in my formula, then in my book lesbians is another subject I really like to talk about.

I personaly could care less what another's prefrences are.So long as they don't live next door to my family! The problem is when it is paraded around in front of young children as being a normal thing..It surely confuses a child. But the main reason is because it is the opposite of what The Bible teaches us.How can a parent teach their child that type of life style is not pleasing to God,when the children see it in every day life. Most parents feel their children are being brain washed by the media. If you see or hear something over and over and over one begins to accept it!

Sadly, far too much discrimination occurs. One act of intolerance is one act too many.
And what's with "Julia's" answer? Sounds like someone needs a hug!
Seriously, to give her credit:
we ARE more intelligent,
we ARE career oriented,
we ARE better shoppers,
we ARE better at locating the greatest vacation destinations,
we DO make more money (see the 1st "we ARE" above),
we ARE..... oh hell. Why continue? You get my....er, her point.
We just ARE. We're FAB-U-LOUS at merely being!
::insert wry grin here::

I can't add much to what's already been said; We can't marry so therefore are forever "single". In some states we can't adopt or foster children. We can be fired from our jobs if someone finds out we are glbt. We can be evicted from out homes. We can't have "joint" car insurance, AAA memberships, "Family" memberships to most organizations. We pay higher taxes as "single" people, have to have individual health policies in most companies... the list goes on and on and on... AND we face the possibility of violence against us just because we love someone of the same sex......
