No, not really; it is a legit program, you can download it and scan but it won't remove until you pay. But the difference between Spyware Doctor and scams is that it will tell you thename, locations and filepath of the suspect files, so you can write that down and go to a technical forum to find out how to remove them.
Here's a list of free legit security software; I'd start with Avast!

The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out. Either of these firewalls are free for personal use and stop unwanted incoming and outgoing traffic. You choose which programs are allowed to access the internet. They are both fairly easy to use and updated regularly.

Instal both these web browsers, turn off javascript on one and use that browser for vising unknown websites. They don't support Active X so thats one less way for problems to get on your pc.

Winpatrol is a handy utility that tracks cookies on your pc and stops unwanted changes to your startup folder.

You can also download Microsofts free Windows Defender from the official Microsoft site, and the Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Remember to update and run all of you anti malware programs at least once a week.

probably not, but you can get a free trial of internet security from trend micro www.trendmicro.com
this is not only an antispyware tool but it's an all around internet security and safety package.
Perfect for families who want to restrict access to specific categories of websites like porn and othe nasties from kids you can restrict access to the entire internet but have restrictions to just a few web sites that you set as exceptions.
it even protects your wireless network from attack.
the licence to use the product after trial is under £50 for a year the nearest norton comparable package would cost you two or three times as much.

Try it youl love it.

no its not but the best scan i have used is mcafee at www.mcafee.com they do a free scan and it tells you the virus names and location on your pc so you can delete them yourself, or you can buy the software and it will remove them for you its about $30 but if you live in the uk you can buy it online from www.scan.co.uk for approx £4. i have used others like norton but mcafee is most deffinetly the best by far.

link to mcafee on scan website--- http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=322784

i buy all my pc stuff from scan and would highly recomend them as you can get all the things for pc's at a fraction of the cost as they are a wholesale warehouse that sell to the public

If you wanna do a scan on your pc b4 you buy go to safety.live.com and install their free scanning tool, it will scan for viruses and spy-ware. I tried it last night and it found 2 viruses that my anti-virus never picked up on. You can use it as many times as you want to but it's not recommended to use it as your one and only virus/spy-ware protector
