I will assume your camera uses USB (the large majority does). Decently working USB wasn't really even added until late windoze 98, which was second edition. I would like to make a suggestion before you consider the upgrade or replacement to XP.

Find the manufacturer of the camera and do some searching (Yahoo, Google, MSN, whatever you like best) for the website of the manufacture. Check on the site to see if there is a Windows98 device driver for your model camera. IF there is, you are in luck. Download it and run it on your win98 computer.

If a driver cannot be found, you pretty much don't have any other options. IF your computer has enough memory and a fast enough CPU, you might be able to run XP okay. Really, it is a good idea to upgrade anyway if you can. Other things besides the camera are probably going to cause you grief at some point.

Hope this helps.

Your camera should be drive D and your computer hard drive drive C. You should be able to pull pictures off of drive D and move them to your C drive. It has been a while since I used Windows 98 but I am assuming you are using a USB connection and then using My Computer or Windows Explorer to look at the drives? When you plug the camera in, it will find the hardware and then assign itself the next available drive letter which seems to be D. This means your camera is a separate drive.

You can reformat your PC with XP if it is robust enough to handle it. based on how old it sounds you may be on the border and should get a new PC if you can afford to. The added speed will amaze you.

1) Is the digital camera installed? If it is, you shouldn't have to worry about anything else. Just download the camera software from the web and install it on your C drive. You can't just format a drive that doesn't exist in the first place. Plug your camera into another USB port to get that message to come up.

2) Buy a Windows XP upgrade disk to upgrade from 98 to XP. The directions will be inside of the box.

After you attach the camera and install the drivers (assuming that there are drivers for Windows 98) the camera will appear as a new drive named D. If you open that drive with the camera connected and powered up, you will be able to see the files that are the pictures you took with the camera. You place the pictures on your computer by coping the files to your C drive.

To upgrade to XP, it will work as long as your pc meets the minimum specs for windows XP. if it does not, you would either have to upgrade your pc or get a new one.

On a Mac, shift/manage/three takes a photo of the reveal. If you press shift/manage/four, you'll click on and drag over the discipline you desire; the photo is taken while you liberate the mouse button.
