Yes, it is possible because some females do not want to change their last names or they hyphenate them. You see, a baby can be named say Smith-Schmidt because dad's surname is Smith and mum's is Schmidt.

A child can have as many names as you want to give them on a birth certificate. My daughter has 3 last names

yes you can give your kid the last name roastbeef if you really wanted too the only thing you cant do it use a number like 5 for a name now you can name a kid five just not 5.

yes, you can give a child any surname or even two, it doesnt matter if the parents are married or not...
