I know so many people who love that movie. I don't get it. I think it's on-the-nose, overly-long, pretentious, completely un-sublte and dull. I don't think that director has ever made a good movie. Anyone else with me?

I agree with you. It's boring. I realize that there are tons of people who love it but I can't figure out why. Does it drive you crazy that it is on TV all the time?

Actually I thought the movie was pretty impressive. It took you on a trip of injustice, wrongful accusation to redemption. At the end, you got a sense of satisfaction that those who abused the system (i.e. the Warden) got theirs. It wasn't high action or full of things getting blown up so in that respect, yes it was dull. Keep in mind, it was slower back then and they didn't have things like TV. I enjoyed the Green Mile as well.

Sorry. It's just you. However, the novella (Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redepmtion, by Stephen King) *is* better.

It's just you. I personally like it.. I think that the director is trying to tell the viewers what most wardens are like and to show everyone how prison life is .
