ok heres the true answer....
In the 1800s when football was being played in England (where it was invented) you had to be part of a gentlemans club to play on a team. These were called Associations. Note: all the major football organisations in the world are called "associations" i.e. FIFA, UEFA, FA. The word soccer is a barstardisation of the word as"soc"iation...hence "soca" or soccer.
God knows how they came to choose that one....

becuase ignorant americans took it for there football
cmon u evr see them play wit there feet other than on field goals or punts but in SOCCER its all feet except for the goalie football needs a new name

soccer was called football over in england. see england did not have our football at the time and since you played soccer with your feet. they called it football. sometimes you see it spelled futbol in england.
