Hmm. That depends on what the definition of sound is.
- If sound is only the movement of air at a certain frequency without a device on the other end to interpret those frequencies, then the answer to your question is "yes." But then, all air movement becomes "sound" by that definition, not all of which is within the range of human audition (hearing). Which leads us to this scenario: if an ant farts in the woods and a human IS there to hear it, but can't because the frequency and amplitude (strength) of the air movement is below our hearing threshhold, is it still sound?
- On the other hand, if air moving around requires perception in order to become integrated into coherent sounds, then the answer to your question is no.

Yes, of course it would still make a noise.
This is an example of Object Permanence, by the sound of it.
I'll explain.
When infants are learning about the world around them, they have no conception of objects and their permanence, only of themselves until about 14 months or so.
When you hide an object from view from a child who has not yet discovered object permanence, the object no longer exists in their perception. It simply vanishes. As the child gets older, they will know that the object is still there, whether they can see it or not.
Therefore, even though no one may be around to see or hear the tree fall, it still makes a noise.

Does the tree exist if there's nobody looking at it? If not it could not fall and therefore would not make a noise.

the age old question the question you ask maybe precived but where it came from is basically does life stop if you are not there to witness it does it exsist other than where you are at that moment yes it makes a sound trees are alive they die they let you know they were and yes life continues outside of our minor exsistance.

YES! of course. We had a debate about this in one of my 'advanced' classes. Just because nobody can hear it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Besides, there's ALWAYS something around to hear the noise. (Bugs, rabbits, etc)

I have just asked the same question...sorry..but I think the answer depends upon the definition of sound.
As the concept of sound was created by us, I don't belive that it does make a sound if there is no-one there to hear it.

Yes, it would make an audible noise actually. the fact that there is no one there to hear it has nothing to do with the will it make noise issue.

Yeah... Its not like the sound waves only come out if someone is around to hear it... That would imply that the sound waves are intelligent waves...

Yes. Even without anyone there to hear it, it still creates sound.
