I've played the clarinet for two years, and I'm learning to play alto saxophone. I've played around with a sax and I know most of the fingerings. Anyone else who has made this transition, is there anything I need to know and do you have any tips for me? Any help would be appreciated.

That sounds pretty cool I took clarinet lessons last year and now I know how to play the saxophone it is very easy! It will take about as long as it did when you learned how to play the clarinet but it will be less time because they are basically the same exact thing but different keys and depends on how good you want top get!

I would sit down with a tuner and make a chart of what notes are out of tune for the clarinet and then the sax and compare. This will not only help your clarinet playing, but your sax playing too. Also, I would suggest any sax technique books you can find. I believe Sellner and Snavely have sax books out.

They are very similiar. So much so that when I was studying music in college they gave us a choice of either sax or clarinet to learn...Above all practicing is the key!

Personally, I am a flute player who has dabbled with both clarinet and saxophone. The way you blow into it is very similar on both. The saxophones have more difficulties with tuning. If you work with a tuner, you should be fine.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the alto sax. Make sure you review the notes every time you practice. The scales helped me.

Practice.
That is the only cure for the transition.
A friend in high school made the same transition, and they jot to be pretty awesome by simply practicing.
