A lot of older people may begin to get Altzeihmers disease, Parkinsons, or other things. They have seen many miserable people that have suffered from the disease. They don't want to suffer to the point of being confined to a bed. So, they end their lives. I believe suicide is bad, but i believe that is the reason for the suicide rates.

I'm sure there are some good answers for your question. Unfortunately, I have not researched this enough to make an intelligent guess. Those who may have interest in looking at a graph that shows you U.S. Suicide Rates by Age, Gender, and Racial Group, see here.

Statistics depend on who gathered the data (qui bono, who benefits), and where, when, and how they gathered it. Experiences that drive a person to suicide are also not measured well by the living and uninvolved. The dead cannot be interviewed.
The pharmaceutical companies may have produced the statistics that led you to ask that question because older people may use more antidepressant drugs after being convinced that they need them.

There are lots of reasons, but sometimes it is loneliness. When a person starts getting older they start losing their friends through death and old age. I had a person one time tell me I had no idea what it was like to listen to children laughing and know that there were no more kids in his life. He did eventually kill himself.
