Good intentions rarely come to realization. most often people have good intentions but than they doubt themselves ( how genuine their intention to do good is) and do the opposite. thus, it starts with good intentions and turns to evil deeds.

A metaphor.
Bad is attracted to hell.
Good is not.
Therefore the road to hell is paved with good intentions kind of like a descending stair case. Your good intentions may slow down your descend but your bad actions will pull you down regardless. Only your good actions will cause you to rise.
The assumption here is that actions are worse than intentions.

An intention is defined as: "A course of action that one intends to follow." The implication in the quote is that the road to Heaven is through DOING good, not intending to do good, which is the road to Hell.

I don't think it has anything to do with whether or not something is "followed through"... More as if when someone thinks they can save the world by implementing a plan or whatever, and the results turn out to be worse than if nothing was done in the first place, sort of like intending to make something better, but turns out it made it worse.

It's like George Bush sending soldiers to Iraq to kill and be killed- oh, wait- he had to have good intentions? Never mind...
The trick is that good intentions are all that you can have- everything in some way contains its own opposite- any good you do will cause bad and vice versa.

People don't set out heading for Hell; they make choices that might lead them there, but which start out with good intent.

Just because you are a good person with good intentions it does not been you are going to heaven. Take the man next to Jesus on the cross he was forgiven and went to heaven...so good or bad is not the issue of going to hell.... it is accepting Jesus Christ as your savior.

I think it's when you plan on doing something good and everything gets messed up and goes to hell, but your intentions were good.

I like this question. To me it means that despite trying to do right, the end results can go terribly wrong. For example, lets say you are contributing money to a charity that is for saving a bird species on the verge of extinction. But it may turn out that this bird you are saving will one day wipe out a plant species that could have cured cancer. So, you saved the bird species but have caused more suffering by not curing cancer.

That bad people mean well, but do not know they are doing bad. Like when the people at the ice cream shop give a cute kid who's allergic to nuts a bunch of hidden peanuts in his cone. They didn't know he was fatally allergic, they thought they were being generous, but at the same time they shouldn't of.
P.S. This is a made up example: I think........

If thought by religious means, the devil promises you what you think to be "good intentions" to pull you closer to him. For all we really know "intentions" could be no more then bread crumbs to lead us into a so called "destined" life. (Just a thought)
