The refill kit i purchased has a gauge on it, and i am able to put refridgerant in, the compressor kicks on at regular intervals but still no cold air. Just curious if there's something i'm missing before i spend the money on a mechanic.

Not working how? No air? Hot air?

How low was the freon ? If it was more than just a little low you need to evacuate the system. (pump all the air out before putting in freon) Air pockets in the system will prevent it from working properly.

Silly but is the fan belt adjusted properly? Could it be slipping on the compressor pulley?

Are you getting good air flow over the radiator ?

Is the system holding the charge. Put the gage back on and see if it has the same reading as when you first charged it. (Maybe a slow leak some where.) If you need to most auto parts stores will sell you a "sniffer" to detect where it is leaking. At this point you should look for a machanic.
