The cover story is that the Iraqi people want to be liberated from the terrorist groups and Saddam Hussein. What Bush is really doing is protecting his interests in Iraq, namely the oil reserves. Not only will he lose money, the economy will suffer more because of the deficiency in oil available to American citizens. Gas prices will go higher and many will not be able to afford it. So your answer is yes, we are in this war because Bush owns oil, but he may be also protecting his citizens.

No. If we had wanted oil from Iraq or Iran, we wouldn't have stopped the fight after Hussein was ousted from Kuwait. The army would have just gone right in, gotten rid of the scattered and disorganized remnants of the Republican Guard, and captured all of the oil platforms, stations, and refineries that it needed. And if Bush "owned" oil over there, we wouldn't have this problem in the first place, would we? If he did "own" oil over there, WHY would we have needed to intervene? And if he didn't, we still have plenty of oil reserves up in the Alaskan wastelands (ANWAR strike a bell?), where a lot of oil can be found.

I think that there are no easy answers to the question of why we're still at war in Iraq with no sign of a slowdown in troop deployment or our soldiers dying. I think that when the war started, not many people had a problem with the idea of going into Iraq. However, as it has dragged out and we have seen parts of Iraq being turned into a haven for insurgents I think that most Americans are having a hard time accepting the reasons the government has given for our being involved in this seemingly neverending war.

No. We're in this war because Saddam tried to kill Bush's father and because Bush I was criticized for pulling out of the first gulf war too soon. This decision was made before the 2000 election.

We are protectiong OPEC's interests. See With the Oil For Food Program a cap was set on the oil Saddam could produce at 2 million barrels. At times he would produce the maximum allotment then he would produce none. This caused gas prices to rollercoaster. Well OPEC and Big Oil couldn't allow this to happen, with the Iraq conflict they could raise and level prices of oil. It's ALL about the oil.

That's one reason, along with all the other benefits reaped by the "died-in-the-wall" Republikan, military-industrial war mongers. Another more significant reason, typical of those arrogant pick-pockets, is that the war acts as a smoke screen - a public diversion used to distract the American public, allowing those right-winged fascists to loot and rape our country.

I think it's all a smokescreen for the corporate fleecing of American taxpayers. This administration seems intent on bankrupting America. Cut taxes for the wealthy and shovel war money to corporations that can then shovel it back for political warchests.

Are you kidding, they would be glad to give that god forsaking place back to Ala and the desert snakes forever. Just as long as they don't support terrorists, Terra and Al Ceada. This has been the wound of 10,000 cuts for us, but it would have been much worse if we had laid down an done nothing.
