i just caught a wild groundhog and i thought it might make an interesting pet. I dont know what to feed it(i have a pretty good idea) but my biggest problem is living quarters what does it need, how much space, does it need to burrow? and also it hibernates is that ok to have a pet that hibernates?

The best advice is to let it go near the house of someone you don't like. My rule of thumb is to let it go on the other side of large highway and other side of a deep river.

Ground hogs are rodents, as in rats, and need to gnaw to keep their teeth short. So no wooden cages.

I only live trap them, they love apples and generally will eat anything out of the garden. That's why I trap them. They live underground, so I'd assume any GH kept as a pet is going to be pretty stressed unless he can dig deep into something.

Hibernate? yeah, but I'd assume also that is only if they can get deep underground where it is quiet, again otherwise stressed.

Unless you've got a very small baby GH, you probably have a dangerous stressed animal that is not tamable. Let it go somewhere wild.

Sounds like it's time to break out the 20 gauge. :)

Turn it loose. This is a very, very big mistake you're making.
