I have XP operating system. Power works ok on drive.

It is probably either misaligned or otherwise "hosed"...

Since these drives are now inexpensive (around $30 or less) I would replace it either with another CDRW or, better yet, a DVDRW for about $50 or so!

The first thing you should do is make sure the drive works. If that's good then get the manufacture of your drive's official drivers that works with Windows XP. Install those. These may have come on a software CD that came with your drive or system. If that doesn't work, then make sure Windows recognizes the drive as a drive. It's also possible that your drive could be malfunctioning and needs replacement.

if it doesn't read the cd it could be that you have to many programs opened and it is freezeing up. If that is not the problem then go to start and click my computer and click on the drive that it is. click open and that will open the the program up. if that is not it either then u may have to restore ur computer with the disc.

u could try re installing your os and drivers,make sure you repair and formatt if u do as youll have 2 copies and your hd space and speed will suffer,if you do that you will be sure wether the d drive needs replacing or a system error is the cause,big job tho

Reload the drivers. Or turn the CDs over the other way.

take the cdrw out and (out of the cpu) and reinstall it...and reinstall the drivers again...or if that doesn't work....then buy another one....
