stay put. let the people looking for you find you. if you're moving around, they might not find you at all.

the best thing to do when you're lost from a group is stay where you are. Try to figure out exactly where you are, or in which direction you will need to go. If it's been awhile (hiking- i'd say 2 hours) or it's going to be dark soon then go in that direction. Make sure you're getting some air in between your "HELP!'s", you don't want to pass out or not hear someone else calling for you.

The experts say to stay where you are and I think that's a good idea. If you start moving and you don't know which direction you are going, you will be in a worse situation. I would try to make a signal of some kind. Maybe a mirror, if you have one, or making a large X in an open area to be seen from the air. You could also start a fire, but that can be dangerous if you live in a dry area.

Well, assuming I wouldn't run around in circles like a chicken with its head cut off lol, I suppose I would try to adapt to the environment. This would be hard, but I'd have to make an attempt.
I'd find things that seemed safe to eat and distribute them to my family and myself equally, making sure the food will last for a number of days.
I would suggest to my family that we find shelter - BEFORE NIGHTFALL - so we won't be searching for somewhere to sleep in the dark. I would make it a spot where we could remember, so when after we'd searched for a way out all day, we could return to our shelter at night and be safe until morning when we can look again.

I guess you don't have a cell phone either so...
Build a fire if you can so people will see the smoke.
Follow a waterway.
Use the sun for navigation.
Try to get to the highest point so maybe either you could see where you were or someone will see you and help.
Use a mirror or something shiny if you have it so you can to catch the light and get the rescue choppers attention.

Walk down the hill or down the river a little unless there are snakes or predators in the area or the hill is too steep.
Areas with lower elevation tend to have more people.

I would try to find my own way out and look for signs that someone else had already been traveling the direction I was taking.

That happened to my brother once, he followed trail markers till he got to the start of the trail, we found him their after walking 9 miles trying to find him. I wouldn't recommend that though. You should probably just wait, try your cellphone, or locate the park ranger's office. Maybe blow up a flair.

They say your supposed to remain where you are until someone finds you but i would continue to wonder. There's no way I would wait for hours or even days when i could possibly find my way out in faster time.

Whew! These "what would you do" questions are causing me anxiety today. I would try to retrace my steps while crying and finding a safe place to pee because I always have to pee when I'm nervous.
