Advantages of Iron:
Much Stronger Metal than Aluminum
More Resistant to methanol injection (methanol and al dont act well after prolonged usage)
More durable if treated the same way.
Can handle more power if tunes are correct, because of its rigidness.
Handle higher heat temperatures.
Advantages of AL:
Lighter for the same amount of measurements. Great for a ALL MOTOR Application. (Dont get me wrong al is great on boost also but ultimately a iron block is better for boost)
The physical properties of Aluminum allow for the heat to be carried out faster and more effeciently than iron.

Aluminum engines are much lighter, so a car's performance will improve quite a bit.
But, aluminum will soften and deform at lower temp than iron. So if your car overheats, there's a better chance of permanently damaging your engine if it was aluminum.

I guess the obvious would be that; a one inch think wall of iron would be stronger than aluminum, but a one inch think wall of aluminum is much lighter than iron. General speaking an aluminum block would be better, because it is much lighter and just as stong as the iron would be, because it is thicker.
