I have a wireless router for my laptop. I have it all connected fine and everything works. But my connection is not secure. How do I make it secure? I emailed the company my router is from and they told me to type in the email address http://192.168.1.1. I did all that and this prompt came up for me to enter a username and password. They said to leave the username blank and enter the password admin. I did all that and the only thing that happened was the prompt came back. Nothing else happened. I am getting very discouraged by all this. If anyone can help me please email me at goofygirlfrommo@sbcglobal.net.

You may have changed the router defaults. Push the reset button on the router. Hold it in until the router resets. This will restore the default user name and password, which is blank and "admin". Then access the router through http://192.168.1.1 and try the user name and password again. This should fix the problem.

I'm not sure but it might be possible that the username is admin and the password is blank. You do need it to be connected to your computer via a wire. You cant access the router wirelessly. Instead of emailing the company, just call them this will give you a lot better support because it will be realtime help.

sounds like its a linksys wrt54g
(admin) is in lowercase
open a command prompt ( start>run>cmd)
type

ping 192.168.1.1

if you DONT get a message "unreacable" or "timed out"
then
try hooking an ethernet cable up to it and try again .
