Yes there's a few ways to do this. Some computer companies will actually sell a power adapter for your laptop that plugs directly into the lighter. However, the easiest and cheapest is to buy a power coverter. Basically it plugs into the lighter and it has a standard plugin for you to plug your laptop into. As if you were plugging your laptop into a wall outlet at home.
However, mind you that power fluxuations can occur while using devices not meant for automobile usage. Therefore it's possible that you can have surges happen which can fry your laptop. So it's recommended to have a surge protector or buy the adapter with built-in surge protection.

Better be careful I bought a converter and pluged mined up with the motor running the wires for the lighter nearly caught on fire. I going to run a new large wire to a differant converter straight from the batterie with about a 20 amp fuse in line for it. Again be careful. You could screw up car and laptop.

either get a car charger for your particular laptop (check the manufacturer's website, or call your local electronics store and ask them).
Or, you could buy an inverter that converts the cig lighter current into the normal 120V socket, and plug in your laptop charger to that. This is probably the cheaper option.

yes there is, buy a converter from a local electronics store, what that will do is plug into your cigarette lighter and have a standard wall adapter at the end of it. It plugs into that using the normal chord and you are all set. Circuit city roadshops usually have something as do radio shacks. Hope this helps.

They have adapters for that, but the only way to do it without running down the car battery is to keep the engine running.

Yes, different brands have their own adapters, so check your local electronics store. My husband used his all the way to vacation and back (4 hour trip one way).
