Ditch it. New PCs are so cheap now. You can get one from Dell, for like $300. Sometimes they have specials that include free shipping or a free flat panal monitor. Any new PC you buy now will probably be better then your PIII.

Get a new one deffinatly. I had the same proble with my k6/PII equivilent chip and restoring did not go down too well. Further more i went and built myself one and i know it works, it just doesn't have updated drivers and i've not been able to get it yet. cut a long story short i ended up buying a laptop from dell, and over spending on my pc. dell can have good deals. infact i reckon their deals are probably amongst the best and competetive of all retail pc's. you just need to do a bit of shopping around. I would not recomend building your own budget pc as you'll probably get a better retail packaged deal. its only worth doing if your going to build a high spec one and/or you've done your research and can get your parts for really cheap and you know what your doing.

Just get a new, faster one. If you are expecting to be using Windows Vista in the future, you need atleast 1GB of memory, at least a 60 GB hard drive with 15GB free and a few more things, check PCPitstop and the Windows Vista readyness test, most details are also on the internet somewhere now.

buy or build a new one you can use some of the parts from the old one for cheapness but Apart from the hard drive for recovering your files and the cd/dvd drive I wouldn't keep much else if you'r building try a computer fair they have some very reasonable prices even for pre built ones you can still use your monitor keyboard etc good luck

If you are reasonably capable with computers you can get good barebone systems from places such as
www.scan.co.uk
www.komplett.co.uk
www.valuelist.co.uk

You can keep your hard disk/RAM/DVD Drives etc and just get the motherboard/chip and box replaced for a 150-200

Take the opportunity to get a new system - you'll be amazed how much faster even a £300 system will be.

If your CPU-P3 is really dead then by new one. P-4 are much cheaper these days and allot faster.
but before buying new one check your CPU(P-3), may be it has very minor fault.
