In the MLB schedule, there are no such things as guaranteed games against a certain opponent any more.

All there is now is guaranteed number of games against a particular division (or league in the case of inter-league play).

Because baseball decided a few years ago to have the majority of the schedule be against teams in your own division, so most teams end up playing everyone in their division 19 times (I believe the NL Central and the AL West are the exceptions due to having 6 and 4 teams in those divisions, respectively).

They have to play the teams in their own division over and over again, some at home, some away. Outside of their division, they play once at home and one series away. They play one team from the other league one series at home and another team away.
