i subscribed to 17 for two years...but after a while, i felt like i was being stupid for reading these kind of stuff that are suppose to help young women with their makeup, clothes, boy troubles, horoscopes...and besides the real life stories, there's not much to gain...but at the same time, i remember i was excited every time i got my new magazine...and once a guy in my class was looking through my friend's teen vogue magazine, and he was laughing and saying "i can't believe i'm looking through this"..i wasn't close to him so i didn't ask him what did he think about the stuff that us girls are reading..so what do u guys think?

I read Cosmopolitan and I take offense when people call me a mindless fashion zombie or anything like that. I am still my own person. I read the magizines because I actaully like the articles about what different girls have gone through. I mean, I am not going to say I don't read anything about fashion and beauty, but I don't follow every trend either.

Hey, from now on, anytime you have a question for someone, just ask!! It's the best way to get information. :)

I think that first of all, it's a corporation just like any other and they're all filled with adds and promoting products because of "special interest" and "magazine executive relationships with vendors". With that said, I think that the smut they put in there is innapropriate. They know darn well that girls much younger read 17 yet they fill it with stuff on sex and how to be a pleaser. There is NOTHING empowering in there for women. It's all about "do this to him and do that to him" to get a guy. Totally against what we should be teaching girls to do and that's empowering themselves through self confidence, good communication skills, appropriate dress and behavior for young girls in order for them to excel, basic finance help, etc.

Instead, they all take the easy road to make a magazine sell and that sex, sex and more sex. :)

I had 6 subscriptions at one point and the only one I kept was a financial magazine. I am determined to learn as much as I can about investing so I can be a powerful women!!

There's nothing wrong with or stupid about reading those magazines or any other magazine as long as you can figure out what's real and what isn't.
No matter what you read there's good and bad to be found.
That guy who looked through the girl's magazine wasn't forced to do it. I'd bet that he was getting a charge out of it as much as he tried to make it look like he did it to poke fun at your friend.
When he said "I can't believe I'm looking through this" it could have been pointed out to him that he WAS looking at it.

Why not--if the gals get a kick out of it and it hits their switches--why not ?? The guys don't have alot of lee way at laughing about a girl mag---look at some of the junk they pour their money into--just go to any mag stand and look it over carefully --some of this stuff is just down right stupid---so go ahead and girl-up--if you like it--whose to say different ???

Girls who are not fashion conscious and dress well are duds. Reading the mags gives a sense of fashion and is a good thing. guys hate girls in sneakers and jeans. These mags teach about the business world and being a young adult, all necessary social skills.

it means you are somewhat maturing...
when i was younger i like to read those teen magazines too -- especially when i was 13 - oh god, my "identity-crisis" stage.

but as i grew older -- my taste in magazines also is different. i used to love marie claire that i would buy it as soon as it's out. what i particularly loved about it is they would post articles about what's going on in other countries -- like poverty, hunger, abuse, violence etc -- and they give you ideas on how you can help if you want to. they inspired me to be noble.

but somehow, now they're useless -- they don't post much of those stuff anymore. now it's all about other people's "dilemna" not even that important -- there are people with bigger problems you know?
