I saw a garder snake in my basement last week. I freak out and ran upstairs. My boyfriend went downstairs, but was unable to find it. I won't go down there until we find it. What is the best way to find this snake to get rid of it? Please help, I need my basement back, my bedroom is down there! Thanks!

If we could find it, my boyfriend would pick it up and get rid of it, the problem is that we don't know where it is.....

At Mayday Pest Control we would place rat glue boards along the walls and in the corners. You can get these at Lowes or Home Depot. Also, you really need to find the entry point and close it off. They sell a sulpher based product called Snake Away that last about 30 days that you can also sprinkle around your home to repel further snakes. If you need anything contact us at www.maydaypestcontrol.com or call 972-353-2200 for all your pest needs. (look at the dead snake under this car's hood at our website)

I would also recommend being nice to whoever's house you live in so they might let you sleep upstairs :)

Okay, first, EW! And so sorry you have to deal with it! I would call an exterminator, because you don't know if those snakes are dangerous or not, and if they get out of the basement, or you or your husband take the task on yourself, you can get seriously injured. If you can't find an exterminator, then pick up a mongoose - they eat snakes. Of course, then you have to get rid of the mongoose. My boyfriend suggests getting a sexy female snake and putting it on a fishing pole and wheeling it in to get the snake in a trap; and if it's female snakes in your basement, pick up a box of chocolates, and every 28 days, leave them down there inside a trap. LOL ;)

Pick it up an put it outside. Garter snakes have no fangs.

Check in corners, in boxes, under boxes, under the furnace, etc. Basically turn on the lights, and look everwhere there's a shadow. Remember, it got in somehow, it may simply have left the same way, if you can't find it. It's not going to do any harm either way. Like I said, they have no fangs or venom, just tiny little teeth that can't really do more that leave little red marks on your skin even if it does bite you.

Call the Department of Animal Control. They can send someone to find it and remove it. Don't tell them what kind of snake it is...just that it's a snake!.

Borrow somebody's cat. I live in an area surrounded by woods and our cat keeps out the snakes, mice, moles and other small critters that want to take up residence.

there is some poison that makes the animal really thirsty.
it is used to get animals out of attics. so they don't die in there and start stinking.
put some down. snake eats it. and runs out to find water. then it dies.

chances are that if it came in , it will probably leave. if you or your bf find it, pleast don't kill it. the snake never did anything to you and will not bite unless threatened. it is scated of humans and wil not go out of its way to attack a human. the reason you'r bf couldn't find it is probably becausi it saw you, got scared, and hid. don't worry, it's no big deal.
