Rumi was born in Balkh (then a city of the Greater Khorasan province of Persia, now part of Afghanistan)
More specifically, Rumi was born in Wakhsh, the part known as Tajikistan.
Greater Khorasan was an area of land that encompassed parts of what we now know as Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
