If your computer system has been running slow or acting strangely, then simply reformatting and reinstalling the OS will probably not cure your PCs' ills. Start by completely wiping out all of the data on the drive with a product such as Wipe Drive from White Canyon Software. That way if there is any remnants of spyware, viruses, registry misconfigurations, they will all be completely eliminated from your drive and unable to cause you further headaches when you do reinstall the OS. Just remember to back up all of your files before wiping and have any and all of your software, driver discs, updates, security patches, etc. ready to go after you put the OS back on the hard drive. Sounds like a lot, but your machine will run better if you start out with a clean drive. Have Fun!

if you are going to reformat your hard disk then you'll have to boot from an install os cd and there it will prompt you to either upgrade or install a new os, when you install a new os then do format first.
