We have reservations at the Hyatt on E. Wacker over the fourth of July.
Could someone please tell me about the fireworks on the fourth at the Navy Pier? Is there a charge? Will we be able to see them from our hotel? The lady at the Hyatt said the pier is only like two blocks away. Is this true?

Also, the lady at the Hyatt said that the Field Museum is like only one mile away. Are there sidewalks? Can we just walk over there or will we have to drive?

Limotommy50, are you out there? Your answer to my last question was GREAT!! Thanks!!

There is no charge to see them. I don't know about your hotel situation, but I can tell you that the fireworks are awesome!!! We take our boat every year and watch them from there. You won't be disappointed!

Depending on the view you have from your hotel room, yes, you will be able to see the fireworks from Navy Pier. However, it is a short walking-distance away (less than 1/2 mile, but not two blocks) so why not go there and see it? It is VERY close. I recommend, if you go there, hit up Fox & Obel for a picnic dinner beforehand. Fox & Obel is at the corner of Illinois & McClurg, about two blocks away from Navy Pier. There is absolutely no charge for the fireworks, however, Navy Pier's many interesting attractions sometimes have fees associated with them (such as the IMAX theatre, the FunHouse, the Ferris Wheel, etc.).

The Field Museum is a little farther away than your booking agent led you to believe (I get the feeling she is prone to underexaggeration!). I would not consider walking there. I would suggest that you take a cab, rather than driving. The cost will be about the same as driving, but then you don't risk moving your car from parking garage to parking garage.

My family has watched fire works just off lakeshore drive across from Buckingham fountain - It is spectacular and free, We walked several blocks to our car to avoid traffic . This is just south of Navy pier. There are fireworks just about every week end in chicago anyway during the summer Sitting near the moured sail boats is a treat as the lighted boats come by within feet of you. The aqaurium is near also. The field museum about 20 min walk south from Navy Pier -nice walk on a good day . I am a walker so it does not bother me to walk all around the loop -Bring a camera and look like a tourist -you'll fit right in. A boat tour on chicago river is nice too if you have the time .

there is no charge to see the Fireworks. I think you can see it from the top floor of your hotel. I don't think the Field Museum is like only one mile away. it is far from Navy Pier.
