Do you smoke? If you do stop immediately!! That causes blood clots with birth control. Also, has your doctor put you on blood thinners? I would think 4 incidence of blood clots, especially Pulmonary Emboli, which is very deadly would be cause for treatment! I can't imagine a correlation between your cycle and pulmonary embolism, but you should talk to your doctor more. In the mean time, I would definately start an asaprin regimen until you can get this taken care of! St Johns makes an 81mg asaprin that is a great OTC blood thinner. But don't let this take the place of your doctors advice. You may even want to seek out a doctor that specializes in Vascular care! Take care of it soon though, thats PE is a timebomb!
Good Luck!

if the evra patch is a type of contraceptive then you should not be using it. I have a blood clot in my left. And i am not allowed any type of birth control because it can cause blood clots. Also you should be taking coumadin everyday to prevent future blood clots. Also you should have your blood tested regular for your pt and inr levels. To see if your blood is staying thin enough so it dont clot somewhere in you body. And please get a second opion on the patch from a different doctor. Because i was told i could have no form of birth control what so ever. I would say go se a hematologist to see why you suffer blood clots before menstuation i dont know if they would be related but have it checked and if you have had more then 1 blood clot then you should be on coumadin for the rest of your life thats what i was told by several doctors and specialists. Hope this helps you

The only way to prevent the pulmonary embolia that you fear is starting evaluating the following points:
-are you using real elastocompressive panties- from toe to waist -?- more than 20 deniers pressure-
-do you take aspirine every day?
-do you smoke?
-are you kind of fat?
-can your doctor guarrantee that the patch you are using is not contributing to generate bloodclots?
-Do you have varicous veins -internal, externals-
In any case, the consultancy to your doctor is very important. In the meantime, please do the simpler that never harms: get yourself a good pair of elastocompressive pantysocks, lift the feet side of your bed with something firm as bricks - helps to improve the circulation while resting - and unless you are allergic, pregnant or have an active ulcer, take an aspirin per day.
This is not intending to replace the consultancy that you must do to an specialist, just to give you a little advice and ask you to be less scared and more careful.
Take care, Froggy

Blood clots are a dangerous side effect of birth control... I understand you to say that you Were in ICU 7 years ago and now have started taking Birth Control again. There are other forms of birth control...I myself would not take the risk. You have already shown a propensity to having clots. You may need to find a different form of birth control. Hey blood clots not only cause pulmonary embuli but can cause a stroke or heart attack.....
I had a friend that had a stroke at 30 and was paralyzed on one side.
you may need to speak with your GYN doc about this. Good Luck!

Of course it's related. I've found that in my 22 years of bleeding every month that your body is very unique in the way that it plans for what it thinks is false pregnancy. In plans, I mean, prepares for. Case in point: Every month like clock work, 1 day before my scheduled period, my eyes would swell shut so bad I could'nt see to drive. (plus I looked and felted hideous.) I've heard of weird things happening to women before, during, and afterwards. If I were you I'd stay on the pill and keep a journal of all the things you go through. Good luck.

It could be related to your birth control. You need to tell your doctor what is happening. This can be a dangerous condition. Hormonal contraceptives can cause blood clots.

Go back to your doctor. Clots are serious and can be fatal if they migrate to your heart or brain.
Also, if you smoke, STOP IMMEDIATELY!
