I just recieved a letter saying I used Kazaa this past November and that I downloaded 450 songs. Now I doubt I have 450 songs on my computer, let alone that I downloaded 450 songs that month that are copyrighted by Sony. They want a settlement of $3750 dollars or suggest i get a lawyer. Is this a scare tactic or am I really boned?

Who sent the letter? Make sure it is from a legitimate source (just because the letterhead says "Sony" doesn't mean it really came from them). It could be that someone found out that you have Kazaa on your computer (which is easy to do in the age of spyware) and is sending you the letter to see if you will send the money. I would definitely meet with an attorney before you send anyone any money!!

They are pretty serious. They've even gone after a woman who doesn't know what an MP3 is. I would seriously suggest getting a lawyer, especially if you know you didn't download (all) the songs they say you did.
